Hubert von Goisern and Tom Walek

He is considered to be the founder of alpine rock and has been thrilling his audience in Austria and beyond for four decades. On Easter Sunday he makes time to take a hike with Tom Walek near Goisern - the place where he grew up and which he very deliberately integrated into his stage name: Hubert von Goisern is guest on Walek wandert on Sunday, 9 April on Ö3.

From Rathlucken Hütte, the path leads to the "Ewige Wand"; in this mountain bike and climbing paradise Hubert von Goisern shares the beautiful side of the Salzkammergut, with a view towards Lake Hallstatt and the rock formation of the Dachstein beyond. The world musician and Tom Walek meet for a hike at the end of Lent. Fasting reminds Hubert von Goisern of his early years as a jobbing musician: "That's because when I lived in Vienna in the 80s and had no bookings for a long time, suddenly all my money was gone. So I thought: 'I'm not going to let circumstances dictate that I have nothing to eat, instead I'll go on the offensive and call it Lent.'"

Faith, morality and Hubert von Goisern's private life are all subjects, as is his family life: "The biggest hit is my family - that's it's intact, that we get on with each other and can fight with each other. Combining that with a career in which I'm away so much is what pleases me the most," the musician tells Ö3.
